Careless

I had an adorable cat 4 years ago. Its name was Mok. He was just 3 months when I adopted him. I was living by myself at that time so he was one of my best friends. He always welcomed me when I got home and acted charming to me everytime. I had two cats at that time but the other had died because of peritonitis. I could ease my sadness because of Mok. I lived in an officetel and I decided to move to an apartment which is bigger. Mok loved that bigger place. He had more spaces to hide and run. I bought a fabulous cat tower for him. He liked it so much. He jumped on it, scratched it, and lay on it all the time.

One day, I read an article about neutered cats and I got lots of valuable information from it. So I decided to neuter him. I researched about some good veterinary hospitals’ lists. I choose one reputable hospital and I went there by myself at first. I asked about some procedures for surgery, costs, etc. We scheduled a date and it was THE DAY. I brought him to the hospital and the vet said “We will call you after the surgery. Don’t worry.” I believed what he said and went out from the hospital. About one hour later, a nurse called me and said “The surgery ended and he is fine. He is under anesthetics so please come back and bring him after 1 hour.” I felt relieved and kept drinking coffee with my friend.

However, the hospital called me again after 20 minutes. It was the nurse again. She said “Can you come now quickly? We are having an emergency. The vet is trying to save him now. You need to come here now,” I did not even know what was going on until I got to the hospital. There were only full of foreboding and my heartbeat quickened while I drive there. When me and my friend got there, my cherished little kitty was put on a respirator and had a nosebleed. Can you imagine what was going on there? The vet said he is suffering from ‘acute pulmonary edema’ which means his lungs were filled with water. He also explained about reaction to anesthesia. He promised me that he will stay and care of my kitty. He set me at ease that he will be okay.

Unfortunately, my precious little kitty Mok could not take the pain much. He died when he was only about 1 year old. I cried and cried. I could not stay with him at his last moment. His last moment that I remembered was his painful body. I brought him to an animal funeral hall with my mother. God, you have no idea how much I cried at that time. We sprinkled his bone ashes in Jangsan Park. I sometimes go there to give some food to him. Such as a tuna can, french fries which was his favorite. Then some cats come to me and eat those foods. I keep looking at them for a while and leave.

I did not have any idea about some side effects of that surgery. After that, I read about some similar cases in the web cafe. If you agonize about it, you should choose the veterinary hopital carefully and have to know about some reviews of that hospital. Also, read the documents very carefully. I did not see any documents about the surgery. The vets have to show you a document and explain about the side effect. That procedure is necessary! Never make rash judgement!

Why You Should Spay or Neuter Your Pet

Pets are good companions for humans. Today many people own pets and live with them. However, people make them ill, do not care about their mood, and even abandon them. Pet owners should spay or neuter their pets to extend their life, relieve stresses, and decrease the number of stray animals.
Did you know that neutering pets help them to live longer? Generally, the pet owners want to live longer with their pets. On the whole, the average lifespan of cats and dogs are thirteen years. According to A USA Today, the pets in USA with the highest rates of spaying and neutering also live the longest. According to the report, neutered male dogs live 18% longer than unneutered male dogs and spayed female dogs live 23% longer than unspayed female dogs. It is better to spay or neuter before their first estrus. The vets say the animal spayed or neutered before their first heats are typically healthier.
In addition, people are not only the living things which get stressed but also animals get stressed just like human. Especially, cats are too sensitive so they are easy to get stressed. As you know, animals have an estrus periodically. For example, cats experience a seasonal estrus in autumn and late winter. They get stressed a lot whenever those seasons come. To suffer from stress is harmful to your pet’s health. It can also make them behave badly. To put it simply, the male cats spray everywhere and it stinks violently.
Finally, spaying or neutering pets can decrease stray animals. Have you ever seen the kittens on the street just about to die because of long starvation? There are lots of homeless animals in every country, in every state. These high numbers are the result of unplanned mating. The problem is, who is going to take care of them such as feeding, housing, and so on. Nowadays, some groups of people who love pets help to spay or neuter for those stray animals. It helps a lot to prevent the overpopulation of those homeless animals.

Some animals in shelters are safe and happy. On the other hand, some are not saved from the desolate streets. Spaying or neutering pets prevent animals from being born accidentally. It also reduces their stresses, decreases the probability of pets will be infected with some kinds of disease or cancer. If you love and care about your pets, spay or neuter them to make them live happily with you for a long time!

Get Acquainted Responses

-Where are you originally from? Where do you live now?
-Do you have a boyfriend? What is he like? How did you meet?
-Do you like animals? Do you have any pets? Why?

I’m living in Jangsan, Haeundaegu. I was born and raised in Haeundae. When I was born, there was no Jangsan at that time. I lived in Dalmaji. There’s no bus in Dalmaji so I used to take my school bus. If I had to go out to meet some friends, I had to go on foot. If you know Dalmaji, you’ll understand how hard it was to walk that uphill road. It was really good that I had a school bus in my elementary school.  It could be possible because it was a private school. Thanks to my parents about sent me that school. Anyway, I moved to Jangsan when I entered middle school. Jangsan was an expanse of plains before. As soon as the New Town was built, we moved. Dalmaji was too old to live in after I grew up. I like living in Haeundae. There’s nothing I can’t do at here! I can go shopping, watch movies, and meet friends. I don’t need to go far to have fun.

I also can have a date with my boyfriend. We met each other in our workplace. My boyfriend was working there for the short-term  job. I’m still working but he quit because he had to go back to school.  I entered this University a later age and also he is a lot younger than me.  This is the reason that we both still go to the University even we have a big age gap. We’ve been dating more than 1 year. His University is in Kimcheon, Daegu. It’s far from here. It takes more than 2 hours when I drive. He comes every 2 weeks. If he has a vacation, he comes to Busan which is his hometown. He works at the same workplace in each vacation so, we can meet everyday only on school vacations. He has an old soul on young shoulders. Despite the seven-years age gap, we can understand each other. That’s why we still can be together, I think. My parents like him, too. He sometimes comes to my house to see my parents and have dinner with my family. My kitty likes him so much because my boyfriend plays with him a lot. I love pets!

I have an allergy to puppies but cats are fine. I had two cats before but one of them passed away during the TNR surgery. It was the carelessness of the veterinary hospital. It was so tough for me. I couldn’t do anything after they died. I only stayed in my house. I was living alone at that time. One day, my mom came and took me to bring another kitty. That is my Kobe now. Yes, that Kobe from Kobe Bryant. I was thinking of my little kitty’s name and I heard that name from somewhere. I  kind of liked the sounds, it fits with him. So I choose to call him Kobe. Most people think cats are arrogant and have unique personalities. It is absolutely not true! Cats are so friendly and full of charms. He always follows me. When I call his name, he answers and comes to me to rub against my legs. Every time I came back home, he rolls and welcomes me. I wish I can live with him for a long time.
