Why You Should Spay or Neuter Your Pet

Pets are good companions for humans. Today many people own pets and live with them. However, people make them ill, do not care about their mood, and even abandon them. Pet owners should spay or neuter their pets to extend their life, relieve stresses, and decrease the number of stray animals.
Did you know that neutering pets help them to live longer? Generally, the pet owners want to live longer with their pets. On the whole, the average lifespan of cats and dogs are thirteen years. According to A USA Today, the pets in USA with the highest rates of spaying and neutering also live the longest. According to the report, neutered male dogs live 18% longer than unneutered male dogs and spayed female dogs live 23% longer than unspayed female dogs. It is better to spay or neuter before their first estrus. The vets say the animal spayed or neutered before their first heats are typically healthier.
In addition, people are not only the living things which get stressed but also animals get stressed just like human. Especially, cats are too sensitive so they are easy to get stressed. As you know, animals have an estrus periodically. For example, cats experience a seasonal estrus in autumn and late winter. They get stressed a lot whenever those seasons come. To suffer from stress is harmful to your pet’s health. It can also make them behave badly. To put it simply, the male cats spray everywhere and it stinks violently.
Finally, spaying or neutering pets can decrease stray animals. Have you ever seen the kittens on the street just about to die because of long starvation? There are lots of homeless animals in every country, in every state. These high numbers are the result of unplanned mating. The problem is, who is going to take care of them such as feeding, housing, and so on. Nowadays, some groups of people who love pets help to spay or neuter for those stray animals. It helps a lot to prevent the overpopulation of those homeless animals.

Some animals in shelters are safe and happy. On the other hand, some are not saved from the desolate streets. Spaying or neutering pets prevent animals from being born accidentally. It also reduces their stresses, decreases the probability of pets will be infected with some kinds of disease or cancer. If you love and care about your pets, spay or neuter them to make them live happily with you for a long time!

  2. To begin with, It was very useful information that spayed and neutered cats and dogs can live longer than before, and I'll go along with your thought. Truly, when I was in military service, I saw many pathetic scenes where cat died miserable death at the desolate street. It made me feel sad and I thougt we need somthing for strayed them.

  4. I live with a cat who has not neutered yet. He is about 6 months old, so I was planning to neuter him before this winter. I knew that estrus is stressful and painful for the pets, but I learned new truth that neutering pets makes them live longer. I think I should be hurry for this matter. Thank you for good information. :))

  5. I don’t know anything about neuter and spray because I’ve never had cats and dogs. After I read your essay, I learned about neutered or sprayed cats and dogs live longer. I agree with your opinion that cats and dogs should be neutered or sprayed to live happily and longer with their owner.

  6. I think that spraying or neutering pets are really good opportunities to extend their lives and keep them healthy as well. I had three cats( from September,13 I have only two). Two of my three cats were not spayed. In the result, one of my cat named Marta has huge problems with her health and during last year she had already 3 operations (at the age of 15). I wish I know earlier about spaying animals! Although we did not sprayed her on time, our family continue to fight for her valuable health day by day. We will never stop fighting until we win!!! We love Marta so much and we do everything possible to keep her on this planet!!!!!!!
